Astro SB013 – FPV Live Video Latency

Date Released: November 24, 2025

Subject: Astro SB013 – FPV Live Video Latency

Effectivity: Immediate

Required Action: Urgent – FPV video feed should not be recorded until a corrective firmware is installed

Affected Part Numbers: FPV accessory for Astro and all Alta X Gen2

BACKGROUND

Freefly has identified an issue with recording the video stream from the FPV accessory for Astro (all variants) and the built in FPV camera for Alta X Gen2. While recording, the live video from the FPV camera can have significant delay. In our testing, this issue only occurs when:

  1. Multiple cameras are connected to the aircraft, such as when LR1 and FPV are both installed, AND
  2. The FPV video is being recorded to the USB thumbdrive on the aircraft

Symptoms:

  • While recording the FPV video stream on the aircraft to the USB thumb drive, the live video can be delayed, in some cases up to multiple seconds of latency.
  • The FPV live video returns to low latency once recording is stopped.
  • Stick inputs remain live—pilots retain full control.

OPERATIONAL IMPACT

  • Only the FPV live video latency is affected. Video recording on other payloads such as the LR1 are not affected.
  • This applies to NDAA and non-NDAA variants of the FPV accessory on Astro, and the built-in FPV camera on Alta X Gen2
  • This issue can occur on Astro firmware versions 2.0 and 2.1, and Alta X Gen 2 firmware version 2.1

RECOMMENDATION

Do not record the video feed from the FPV camera on Astro or Alta X Gen2 until a corrective firmware is installed.

If you do need to record FPV video for your application, either:

  • Do not install any additional payloads beyond the FPV accessory, OR
  • Do not use the FPV camera for realtime navigation. Be aware the FPV video feed can be delayed and use caution when navigating near obstacles.
