How do payloads attach to the Astro?
Astro Max (both standard and NDAA/Blue versions) ship with the Astro Isolator pre-installed, ready to accept any Smart Dovetail equipped payload.
Freefly payloads will use an ultra-small and lightweight dovetail quick release for gimbal attachment. The quick-release integrates all the electrical and data connections between Astro and the payload (gimbal + camera/sensor). These payloads include:
- Sony LR1 Payload (with optional Thermal and Laser Range Finder add-ons)
- Wiris Pro Payload
- Ventus OGI Payload
- Sony A7RIV Mapping Payload (discontinued)
Third parties can use our published documentation, along with our Smart Dovetail Dev kit, to integrate their payloads for use on Astro, Astro Max, or any drone using the same protocol.
Freefly offers alternate payload mounting hardware to suit many applications, we well as published drawings for direct mounting.
We maintain a list of payloads that we’ve tested with Astro on our website.
