Manufacturing Engineer
Freefly Systems - Woodinville, WA (Onsite)
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in bringing our cutting-edge products to life. You’ll own the creation and optimization of manufacturing processes, collaborate with our Product Development team to ensure designs are ready for production, and partner with external manufacturers to scale our high-performance camera systems and drones. If you’re a hands-on problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced, innovative environment, this is your chance to make an impact.
What You’ll Do
- Own Manufacturing Processes: Develop, document, and validate assembly and test procedures to ensure efficient, repeatable, and high-quality production.
- Drive Design for Manufacturability: Collaborate early in the product development process to integrate manufacturing requirements, optimize designs, and ensure smooth transitions from prototype to production.
- Optimize Production: Evaluate and improve manufacturing methods, including materials, tooling, and quality control, to reduce costs and lead times while maintaining Freefly’s high standards.
- Manage Production Ramps: Coordinate with external partners to transfer technical documentation and ensure successful scaling of production.
- Analyze and Improve: Conduct failure analysis, leverage data to drive process improvements, and maintain project schedules to meet aggressive timelines.
- Lead with Agility: Track project progress, manage technical documentation, and work cross-functionally to deliver results in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
Who You Are
- Experienced: 3+ years in manufacturing engineering for mid-to-high volume electro-mechanical products (e.g., drones, robotics, cameras, or similar fast-paced industries).
- Technical Expert: Proficient in process documentation, Bill of Materials (BOM) creation, CAD/CAM, ERP systems, and reading technical drawings.
- Hands-On Problem Solver: Skilled at analyzing data, identifying root causes, and implementing solutions with a first-principles mindset.
- Collaborative Communicator: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly to technicians, engineers, and leadership.
- Results-Driven: Comfortable working with contract manufacturers, managing budgets, and scaling production (experience shipping >5K units is a plus).
- Adaptable: Thrives in a fast-paced environment, with a knack for balancing speed, quality, and innovation without overcomplicating processes.
- Passionate: Enthusiastic about tackling big challenges, building cutting-edge products, and contributing to a fun, optimistic team culture.
- Bonus Points:
- Experience scaling a startup from 0 to 10K units.
- Background in exacting industries like drones, EVs, robotics, or cameras.
- Strong project management and supplier development skills.
Other Requirements
- Willingness to travel (up to 30%, including international) to support production ramps with external partners.
- A passion for hands-on work, from building products to collaborating with customers and teams.
